House Tour: Jason’s Classic South MPLS Apartment

Jason’s South Minneapolis apartment has all the charms to feel right at home.  His furniture and accessories come from his history of working at Restoration Hardware and Room and Board.  Growing up in rural Minnesota helped make him appreciate the look of older antiques, which he has interspersed with his new acquisitions.  He takes bits and pieces of the places he has been and puts them together to create a clean, classic contemporary interior.  Read on after the jump to see the entire house tour and to see my interview with Jason.

Name: Jason

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Size: 900 square feet.

Years lived in: Almost 2 years

What is your style? Classic contemporary

Where does your inspiration come from? Room and Board, Restoration Hardware, and vintage shops

What is your favorite element in you place? All of the woodwork is painted white — I love it!

What is the biggest challenge about your space? My neighbor has a light that shines all the time directly into my living room window — I have to have the curtain drawn constantly to obscure it

What do your friends say about the place? The place is so comfortable, welcoming, and stylish!

What is the biggest embarrassment about the place? The bathroom door sticks — it’s a bit too large on one side and needs to be planed down.  Nobody likes to get stuck in the bathroom!

What is you favorite do it yourself project? My favorite diy-project is the vintage light fixture that my friends sourced and installed as a surprise for my 30th birthday

Biggest Indulgence: Candles — all the time and all over the place.  They’re expensive and they smell wonderful and they make a big mess that I have to clean up — especially the taper candles!  Who doesn’t love a nice-smelling space?!?!?

Best advice when it comes to decorating/designing a space: Pick beautiful things, put them together, and it will work!

Other Inspiration: My other friends who have good taste!

Resources: Room and Board, Restoration Hardware, Z Gallerie, vintage shops, Luehmann (now closed), Hunt and Gather, Victory for candles,

Bedroom: Bed is from Room and Board, dresser is a family heirloom, silver round pedestal table is from Patina, medical cart night stand is from Leuhmann (you may find her items at Guild), violin was my grandfathers

Dining: Dining table is Retrospect (no longer around), dining chairs are from Room and Board, bookshelf is from Target, sideboard is vintage on loan from friend, large mirror is from Restoration Hardware, ceiling fixture is from Z Gallerie,

Accessories: Room and Board, Leuhmann, Restoration Hardware, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ikea, Hunt & Gather, garage sales, flea markets, friends, Ampersand candles,
