MCAD’s Studio Furniture: The Next Generation

Sometimes there is so much focus on the classic mid-century modern designers, one may wonder why more attention is not being given to present day furniture designers?  If you are interested in looking to the future of design, look no further than MCAD’s latest exhibition, Studio Furniture: The Next Generation.  Read on for more info and for pictures of some of the latest designs.

The exhibit features fifteen recent graduates from notable furniture programs.  Each combine fine craftsmanship with experimental materials and designs.  American furniture designer, Wendell Castle will be giving a lecture on “An Idea in Transition” in conjunction with the touring show on Friday January 29th at 6:30pm in auditorium 150 at MCAD.  Daniel Michalik, creator of the above cork lounge, will also be giving a lecture on Thursday, February 11th at 1pm in MCAD’s auditorium 150.

The “Studio Furniture: The Next Generation” runs from January 15th to February 21st, 2010 at Minneapolis College of Art an Design, 2501 Stevens Ave, Minneapolis, MN; 612-874-3700
